CITY COUNCIL
WORK SESSION
The City Council of the City of Casselberry held a work
session following the meeting of Monday, June 25, 1984. All members were
present, and the following items were discussed:
ZB 84 -03, REZONING REQUEST OF GARY HOLMES
Mr. Campbell said the Planning and Zoning Commission /Land
Planning Agency on May 8, 1984 and also on June 13, 1984, reviewed the re-
quests of Mr. Gary Holmes (Applicant), 330 South Lake Triplet Drive, on behalf
of Hibbard Casselberry, Jr., (Owner) that the City of Casselberry grant the
rezoning of a certain parcel of land from its present LA -1 (Limited Agri-
culture) Zoning Classification to the R -1A (Single- Family Dwelling) Zoning
Classification. The approximately 4.62 acre site is located on the east side
of Sunset Drive and on the north side of Overbrook Drive.
Mr. Campbell said at the meeting of the Planning and Zoning
Commission /Land Planning Agency of June 13, 1984, a motion in favor of the
rezoning request died for lack of a second and a vote of 2 - 2 resulted from
a motion in opposition to the request. At the meeting of June 13th, a peti-
tion from neighbors in opposition to the request was presented. This petition
is being reviewed to determine whether or not a favorable vote of three - fourths
of the City Council will be necessary in order to adopt the requested altera-
tion in zoning district boundaries (in accordance with Section 157.296 of the
City Code).
Mr. Gary Holmes said he was requesting the rezoning to allow
him to build homes in the 1,300 square foot range rather than 1,750 square fo
range that is required by R -1AA. The price of these homes would be in the
$78,000 bracket, a quality 2 bedroom, 12 bath home that would be more market-
able than the larger homes.
Mr. Embree asked Mr. Holmes if he would be willing to go to
R -1AA Zoning. Mr. Holmes said this would not be economically: feasible.
Mr. Embree said he would be opposed to this rezoning request
at R -1A because he was against taking prime residential lots around a golf
course and rezone for smaller homes. — this area should remain R -1AA.
