CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of June 11, 2012 — Regular Meeting
Page 17 of 18
Commissioner Colleen Hufford — Seat No. 4:
• Stated she felt very encouraged with the budget process. She added that she feels the City is
beginning to see stabilization of its finances, and is in a good place. She expressed appreciation for
the sacrifices that staff and the employees have made to get to this point.
• Expressed approval for the selections made to the Housing Task Force and stated she is excited to see
what will come from it.
• Thanked Commissioner Aramendia for his involvement with the Get Outdoors Casselberry group and
sponsor Travel Country, and all the events that he is involved in throughout the community. She
stated that it is important for all the Commissioners to be involved in the community.
• Advised she had attended the Pop Up Piano event last Sunday at the Wayne Densch Theater and it
was a great event. She added that she hopes it will continue to be a part of the Seminole County
Cultural Arts program.
• Reported that she rode with Code Compliance Officer Marlene Broman and it was a good experience.
She stated that she felt it was important to understand the process and some ofthe problems facing the
officers. She noted that two hours of each day was spent pulling snipe signs, and suggested that
possibly someone else could be trained for that task, fi•eeing the Code Compliance Officers to focus on
other violations. She added that she could see many improvements throughout the City. She
commended Chief McNeil for involving the Police Department in taking pictures of commercial
vehicles after hours, allowing the Code Officers to start the process based on the photographs. She felt
this was a very proactive approach and eliminated some of the delays.
Mayor Charlene Glancy — Seat No. 5:
Thanked the Commissioners for their representation of the City at community events, their
involvement in various activities, and the knowledge they bring to the Commission.
Reported that she served as Grand Marshall ofthe Memorial Day Parade in Sanford, and had veterans,
Kenny Wildes (Army) and Amanda Navas (Navy) riding with her. She stated it was a very memorable
event and encouraged everyone to try and attend the next one.
Commended Don Martin and Pamela Lynch for their part in obtaining the $200,000 grant fi om the
EPA for cleanup of the Police Station property. She stated that she and Orlando City Commissioner
Daisy Lynum had been invited to receive the grant awards for their cities at Orlando City Hall and it
was a nice occasion. At Mayor Glancy's request, Mr. Martin explained that Casselberry was the only
recipient of a brownfields cleanup grant in the southeast region and had been awarded the grant out of
around 200 applicants. He explained that 100 % of the cost of the cleanup is funded between this
federal grant and other state funds, so there is no impact to the City's general fund.
Reported that she had attended Dr. Vogel's retirement dinner a couple of weeks ago and received
some nice compliments about Casselberry being a warm and friendly city.
Suggested that the Commission may want to send a letter from the entire Commission thanking
Marshal Polston for his efforts on the Concord Cemetery renovations.
CONSENSUS: The Commission agreed by consensus to direct Mr. Newlon to prepare a thank you
letter to Marshall Polston to be signed by all the Commissioners.
