Planning & Zoning Commissionl <br />Local Planning Agency <br />November 10, 2010 <br />Page 9 <br />A brief discussion ensued regarding measuring screened recreational vehicles and the length requirement <br />for recreational vehicles. Mr. Parkhurst asked if there was anyone in the audience who wished to speak in favor of, <br />or in opposition to, the request. Mr. Dave Henson, 233 Bridle Path, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Henson <br />stated that he served on various City Boards and the City Commission for several years. He said that he has been <br />involved with the parking ordinance since its inception. Mr. Henson felt it was important to the City to maintain curb <br />appeal and he didn't have a problem with screening recreational equipment. Mr. Henson said he has attended over <br />50 meetings regarding the parking ordinance and felt that there was no reason to revisit the length requirements. He <br />questioned how a recreational vehicle could be offensive if it is screened from view and also questioned how the <br />maximum length was established. <br />Mr. Henson felt that there were more important things to deal with in the City. He said it is not a major <br />problem in the City and questioned why valuable hours are being wasted and staff time on such an insanely minute <br />issue. Mr, Henson questioned how confidence can be instilled in the government when an ordinance is passed and <br />then it is changed less than a year later. Mr. Henson explained that there was nothing on the City's website <br />regarding tonight's meeting. <br />In response to the Commission's question, Mr. Henson stated that he has an average size motor home at <br />31 feet, Mr. Henson explained the different classifications for motor homes. <br />Mr. Mike Reed, 321 Wyndham Way, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Reed stated that he has lived <br />in Casselberry since 1980 and he has owned recreational vehicles for over 30 years. He said he considers himself a <br />good citizen and tries to follow all the rules. Mr. Reed said there was good audience participation at the City <br />Commission when this parking ordinance was originally approved and it was decided the length restriction for <br />recreational vehicles would be eliminated, Mr. Reed stated he was not aware of this item being on tonight's agenda <br />until he was notified by his friend earlier in the day. Mr. Reed requested the Board consider his thoughts in their <br />decision. <br />Mr. John Casselberry, 700 South Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Casselberry <br />suggested measuring recreational vehicles from the main structure of the vehicle. He thought Florida Department of <br />
