Define the city - find a niche <br />Creation of the city center <br />Input into the fly-over designs <br />Providing information to the community <br />Public -private partnerships <br />Sustainability <br />As the Commission discussed community needs, they agreed that enough action had been taken <br />in the past two years on code enforcement, so less emphasis can be placed on that as the city <br />moves forward. <br />Although the list included being more "business friendly", the Mayor and Commission <br />acknowledged that most of the feedback they receive from businesses and citizens is that the city <br />does a good job in responding to their needs and that the few complaints that are made are not <br />based on actual situations. <br />When asked to select the three most important priorities, the Commissioners selected <br />Economic Development <br />A "Game Changer" <br />Define the city - find a niche <br />Creation of the city center <br />Public -private partnerships <br />® Neighborhood Investments <br />Targeted neighborhoods that maybe transitioning <br />Providing information to the community <br />Sustainability <br />Debt management <br />BUDGET PARAMETERS <br />The remainder of the workshop consisted of a discussion about how the Commission wants to <br />approach the budget for the next fiscal year. The Mayor and all the Commissioners stated they <br />did not want any increase in taxes or fees. After suggesting that the current levels of service <br />be maintained, the Commission realized that based on the budget forecast and their <br />unwillingness to increase taxes and fees that a more reasonable guideline would be to adjust the <br />levels of service to match the available revenues. <br />Several options were suggested to deal with the expected revenue shortfall: <br />Furloughs <br />Pay cuts <br />Layoffs -flattening the organization <br />
