Phyllis Sheppard made a motion to go forward with the contract and
recommended that it be presented to the City Commission. Sheryl Mays-Woods
seconded the motion. The motion was carried unanimously 3-0.
Youth Sports
Mr. Cruz met with Chris Henderson from i9 Sports about contracting the youth
o
soccer, flag football, and possibly the basketball programs out.
i9 Sports would be responsible for all registrations, planning and running the
o
programs.
Mr. Cruz and Mr. Henderson agreed upon a registration fee of $85 for Casselberry
o
Residents, $125 for Non-Residents. Although this is higher than last year’s fees, it is
still lower than many surrounding cities.
If the sports are contracted through i9 Sports, the revenues to the City would be
o
approximately $4500-$4700 per league season.
Phyllis Wallace asked whether scholarships would be available through i9 Sports. Mr.
o
Cruz said that he would have to contact Mr. Henderson and see if this could be
worked into the contract.
June Herron brought up the idea of a “sponsor a child” program. All agreed that this
o
was a good idea and could help families in need.
June Herron made a motion to outsource the sports programs to i9 Sports.
The motion was seconded by Sheryl Mays-Woods and was carried
unanimously 3-0.
City Beautification
Mr. Cruz asked the Board to bring addresses and a draft of the letter of recognition to
o
the next meeting.
Manager’s Report:
The Anniversary Park plans are now at 90%.
The Turf Bloc project and playground piece installations at Secret Lake Park are now
complete.
The goals agreed upon in the Strategic Plan Meeting are now being formatted into the
st
new Strategic Plan for 2009-2011. This should be ready by October 1.
Comments:
Sheryl Mays-Woods asked if the City was involved in the upcoming 5K Rock and Run. Mr.
Cruz replied that the event is run by Track Shack, but the City is a sponsor.
Adjournment:
Motion made to adjourn meeting by Sheryl Mays-Woods, seconded by Phyllis Sheppard.
Meeting adjourned at 8:27 pm.
Next meeting: September 9, 2008
Minutes taken and submitted by Alicia Kardell, Office Assistant.
2
