<br />CASSELBERRY PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD <br />Parks & Recreation Administration Office <br />125 E. Melody Lane, Casselberry, FL 32707 <br /> <br />A regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board was held Tuesday, September 9, <br />2008 at the Parks and Recreation Conference Room located at 125 E. Melody Lane. Phyllis <br />Sheppard called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M. <br /> <br />Board Members Present: <br />Phyllis Sheppard, Liz Torres, June Herron, and Sheryl Mays-Woods <br /> <br />Board Members Absent: <br />Butch Spence <br /> <br />Staff Present: <br />Luis Cruz (Parks and Recreation Manager), Alicia Kardell (Parks and Recreation Office <br />Assistant) <br /> <br />Audience Present: <br />John Casselberry <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes: <br />Phyllis Sheppard brought to attention a mistake in her last name in the August 12th minutes. She <br />was referred to as Phyllis Wallace. With this correction made, Sheryl Mays-Woods made a <br />motion to approve the minutes, seconded by June Herron. The motion carried unanimously 4-0. <br /> <br />Audience Participation: <br />Mr. John Casselberry expressed some concerns about the Blue Way Project. He commented that <br />the nature trail system may attract more homeless to the area. The trail would be too long to <br />maintain and provide adequate security. <br /> <br />Mr. Casselberry also commented on the canal project. He believes that the bottom of the canal <br />should be narrowed below the average water level to help conserve water in times of draught. <br /> <br />Mr. Casselberry asked if the Parks and Rec building was still being demolished and where the <br />retention pond would be located. Mr. Cruz replied that the building will be demolished early <br />next year. A map of the Anniversary Park plans was shown to the Board members and Mr. <br />Casselberry. The location of the retention pond and various other features were discussed. A <br />landing will be constructed in the area where the amphitheater was originally planned. An <br />interactive pop up fountain will be included in the new park. <br /> <br />Beautification Reco2nition <br /> <br />Sheryl Mays-Woods drafted a memo which was handed out to Board members. <br /> <br />Mr. Cruz drafted a memo as well, using Ms. Mays-Woods' letter as a shell. Minor changes were <br />made. All board members agreed that the draft written by Mr. Cruz was well written. <br /> <br />1 <br />
