<br />SECTION 1: The City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 2, Administration, Article <br />II, City Commission, Division I, Generally, Section 2-36, Election of Members of City <br />Commission, is hereby amended as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-36. Election of members of City Commission. <br /> <br />(a) Generally. Candidates for the office of City Commission seats I through 5 <br />inclusive shall file, qualify and run at large for a specifically numbered seat, and <br />shall be elected to office by a majority of the votes cast for that seat in the <br />election. <br /> <br />(b) Runoff Run-off election; unopposed candidates. <br /> <br />(1) The candidate for any office receiving the higheat aumber maioritv of <br />votes cast shall be elected. If t'l:e or more pemaHS receive an eEJlIal RlImber of <br />votes for !!flY office iH any electioH, !!fld HO other peTseH recei'ies a simple <br />majerity of the vates for that offiee, the tie shall Be dissolved B~' a ruaoff eleetiaH. <br />If there should be more than two candidates for anv office and no one candidate <br />receives a maioritv of the votes cast in the municioal election held oursuant to <br />Section 31 of the Citv Charter. or in the event of a tie vote. then the two <br />candidates receivinl! the hil!hest votes in the first election shall run al!ain in a run- <br />off election to be held on the Tuesdav after the first Mondav in November. The <br />run-off election shall be held in the same manner as the orior election. The <br />candidate receivinl! the maioritv of the votes ca~t at such run-off election shall be <br />elected. In the event of a tie vote at the run-off election. the tie will be dissolved <br />bv a lottery oursuant to state statute. <br /> <br />(2) If not more than one person is qualified as a candidate for any <br />particular office, the unopposed candidate for that office shall not appear on the <br />general election ballot, and each unopposed candidate shall be deemed to have <br />voted for himself. If no eligible office draws opposed candidates in a particular <br />election, then no election shall be held. The nonopposed candidate shall be <br />certified elected and take office in accordance with the requirements of the <br />Charter and general law on the date candidates in a contested election would be <br />certified and take office. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. Chapter 2, Administration, Article II, City Commission, Division <br />I, Generally, Section 2-35, Election Procedures, of the City Code of Ordinances is <br />hereby created and shall read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-35. Election Procedures. <br /> <br />(a) Generallv. Pursuant to Section 37 of the City Charter. the Citv <br />Commission herebv orovides for election orocedures to ensure the secrecv of the <br />ballot and intel!ritv of the Doll for all citv elections. <br />
