CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
March 26, 2007 - Regular Meeting

Vice Mayor Susan Doerner - Seat #1:

.

Thanked Mr. Ed Torres, Public Works Director, for his recent assistance regarding moving the
placement of a new telephone pole from the middle of a resident's yard right-of-way to the corner
of the property.
Reported it had also come to her attention that an employee was approached by a member ofthe City
Commission regarding the possible loss oftheir employment, and she concurred with Commissioner
Hufford, in that was inappropriate behavior for a member of the City Commission.
Reported she has spoken to three or four residents in her neighborhood regarding height restrictions
and different matters going on with the downtown area, and noted it was very well received.
Reported she attended the recent Seminole County CRA Advisory Committee meeting. She gave
a synopsis of the meeting discussions which included the County CRA assisting in the payment for
a market analysis of the two Sanford CRA areas, the enhancement of the 17-92 overpass, and the
County trail system. Vice Mayor Doerner stated she proposed to the County CRA that they consider
reimbursing the City of Cassel berry for a portion of the market analysis prepared for the City's CRA,
which covers areas outside of the City's CRA. Vice Mayor Doerner also stated she asked that the
County consider becoming a partner with the City in terms of upgrading the bridge texture aspect
of the 17-92 overpass since it is an entrywayto Seminole County as well as the City. The discussion
relating to the trail system involved the loss of promised funding for an internal trail system within
Casselberry and how other less populated areas of the County have received a lot of funding for
trails. Noted one million dollars from FDOT was still available for the City's trail system, but the
remaining costs were currently unfunded. Requested the City Commission and staff continue to
pursue this matter with members ofthe County Commission to tactfully request that the funding be
made available to complete a trail project that will benefit the citizens of Casselberry.
Requested a report from the City Manager regarding the status of the Lisa Merlin House located near
Plumosa Oaks Park. Ms. Lipscomb reported that staffhas been actively looking into the matter over
the past week and has been working with the County Manager to get more information and explore
the possibilities of obtaining the property for use as a recreation center.
Mentioned there were a couple of articles in the Orlando Sentinel recently that were not very
flattering about Casselberry and that the City needs to be careful about how it approaches
redevelopment issues.

.

.

.

Mayor Bob Goff - Seat #5:

.

Reported he had a discussion with Orlando Sentinel Columnist Mike Thomas regarding his recent
column which compared Casselberry and Maitland. He said he asked Mr. Thomas ifhe was aware
that Casselberry did not have contiguous borders with the City of Maitland and he said he was not
aware ofthat.
Reported the City County Joint Advisory Committee has begun meeting again and is going to be
discussing how to proceed with lobbying the State Legislature with regard to the proposed property
tax reforms.

.
