<br />The remainder of the workshop focused on effectiveness of the staff leadership team. <br />The City Manager described what she needs from the staff to be able to do her job. <br />She identified the following: <br /> <br />Cooperation <br />Teamwork <br />Ethical values and behavior <br />Fiscal responsibility <br />Honesty and truthfulness <br />Enjoyment of work <br />Confidentiality as appropriate <br />Understanding of the citizen/customer perspective <br />Good, valid information to present to the Commission <br />No surprises <br /> <br />The staff then identified what they need from the City Manager in order to do their <br />jobs. They listed thefollowing: <br /> <br />Everything that is on the manager's list <br />Two way communication <br />Translation of a clear vision from the Commission <br />Patience <br />Reasonable deadlines <br />Understanding ofthe constraints of "working" directors <br />Understanding the department's perspective <br />Serving as a buffer between the Commission and the department directors <br />Staying in touch with external influences - county, League of Cities, other cities, etc. <br />Active, visual participation in employee appreciation efforts <br />Don't micro-manage, trust staff <br /> <br />Both the City Manager and staff agreed they are willing to give each other what is <br />needed for success. <br />
