b) <br /> <br />At the recommendation of a Department Director, the City Manager may approve a $25 <br />per month allowance for the employee to cover the costs of vehicle incidenta)s under the <br />following conditions: <br /> <br />The Department Director's recommendation will be based on the frequency of travel <br />and distance of travel by the employee on City business. The Department Director <br />will be responsible for providing the employee a copy of this policy. <br /> <br />ii. Employee is responsible for carrying adequate insurance. The City does not <br /> assume any damage or loss to the employee's vehicle. <br /> <br />iii. <br /> <br />The employee will be responsible for all incidental costs (tolls, parking, gas, <br />automobile maintenance, etc.) except for driving and parking own car to the airport <br />or train station when it is part of approved City-related travel <br /> <br />iv. The allowance is taxable. <br /> <br />11) VEHICLE ALLOWANCE CRITERIA <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />City policies provide for vehicle allowances in lieu of City vehicle assignments. The <br />allowance takes into consideration the customary use of a vehicle and expenses <br />incidental to the operation, maintenance, and ownership of a vehicle. The City Manager <br />will have the authority to consider and grant vehicles allowancesr-in accordance with <br />budget restriction to those who qualify for said allowance, !n =cccrd=nc~ ':;[th rcd!'c~ <br />¢estrietieRc~, for continuous users. An employee who continuously uses his privately-owned vehicle on <br />behalf of City business may be authorized by the City Manaqer to receive a vehicle <br />allowance from $75 to $250 based on 24-hour assiqnment criteria and number of miles <br />the employee drives continuously on behalf of the City. The number of miles considered <br />will exclude miles driven to and from work from the employee's residence durinq normal <br />business hours, -r~.,. ,~ .... ... ,.,,*~ .........., .~.v . ~.";"', ...~ ....... ..... ha .... "~'~ ~."";~ .......... ~ *;~ -,"",v ......... ..-, ,~ ~,~ .-..e°='~ .~'"". <br /> <br />b) It will be the employee's responsibility to report any vehicle allowance in accordance with <br /> Internal Revenue Service regulations. <br /> <br />c) <br /> <br />Authorization for the monthly vehicle allowance negates the use of a City vehicle for any <br />iocal travel by the employee for official City business, except in unusual or unique <br />circumstances approved by the City Manager, <br /> <br />d) Any employee receiving a vehicle allowance may not utilize fuel and services from a City <br /> facility, <br /> <br />e) Employees must maintain his/her own insurance policies in full force and effect at these <br /> minimum levels required by State law. <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br /> <br />
