There are other important issues which need your attention. Progress Energy has gone
out of their way to settle this issue and meet the monetary settlement that you have requested.
But now your plan is to incur more expense to the City and to Progress Energy and take this to a
referendum. The only reason the citizens were ever interested in a referendum was because our
Commissioners were unable or unwilling to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with Progress
Energy. All we were interested in was a City owned electrical utility and the citizens of
Casselberry are not interested in committing twenty-two million or perhaps even more to form a
government owned electric system. I believe it is reasonable to say that if the citizens of
Casselberry are so unhappy with the services of Progress Energy, the Chamber would not only be
full, it would be over, over filling into the parking lot. Why would you go to a referendum now
when you already know what the majority of the citizens want and that is for you to approve the
new agreement with Progress Energy and move on. I have heard a rumor going around the City
that a City Commissioner and ex-Commissioner are considering a mn for the Mayor's seat.
Politics should play no part in the settlement of this issue and for any one of you to think by
taking this to a referendum would be a politically safe way to go is a little absurd in my opinion.
What is needed for each of you is to set aside your personal issues with Progress Energy. This
issue is not just about you or about your political future. This issue is about all the citizens of
this City. The information I, which I have gathered clearly reflects that Progress Energy has
agreed to all of the issues that you had concerns about and now is the time for you as elected
officials to vote to let Progress Energy continue the electrical services to the citizens of this City.
Have you ever wondered why the voter turnout across the United States has been so low? It is
because all of us are fed up to our ears with elected officials who are unable to make sound
decisions and settle important issues that concern our cities and states. If you want a political
future with this City, then it is my suggestion that you work on earning our trust. As you
probably are aware of, in past elections the citizens of Casselberry can and will band together like
a flock of sheep and voice our opinions to our neighbors and friends and plans for a political
future with this Citycouldbeinjeopardy. Thank you.
