CASSELBERRY CITY TREE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
MAY 24, 2023
5. PAST EVENTS
A. Earthfest — 4/29/23
Mr. Barden stated the Earthfest event was well attended and most of the 21 applications received were from
Eartlhfest attendees. Mr. Barden explained how the Earthfest attendees kept confusing the tree giveaway
group with the Adopt -a -Tree Program. Attendees were upset when they were told they could not sign up
for a tree and go home with one the same day. Mr. Witherspoon provided a possible solution and suggested
displaying an A -frame sign out on the sidewalk that would attract people and another large sign or banner
on the table that says "sign up to get your free tree here" with wording that explained that you are signing
up for something that will be planted in the future.
6. UPCOMING EVENTS
A. Rock N Blues Concert and Car Show — 5/28/23
It was noted that the City Tree Advisory Committee will have flyers available at this event. Additional
discussion ensued as Mr. Smith suggested providing the Art House with applications. Mr. Barden
suggested perhaps giving Home Depot flyers to distribute. The Committee discussed posting Adopt -A -Tree
program information on the City's social media sites. Mr. Witherspoon discussed leaving the dates off
applications so the Committee can use them every year. The Committee also discussed the difference
between the Tree Bank and the CTAC budget, and what each can be used for, as well as other ways to
increase visibility of the Adopt -a -Tree program including targeting different neighborhoods each year with
via direct mail campaigns and including information on water bills.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
The Committee discussed providing other public buildings, libraries and schools with applications. To
speed up the application process, the Committee discussed tentatively approving all applications pending
Public Works site survey findings. Extension Services for Seminole County can also provide Casselberry
residents with applications. The Committee can provide rack cards for Extension Services to display in their
auditorium. Adopt -a -Shoreline was mentioned but the Committee decided it would be discussed further in
the next staff meeting.
Mr. Witherspoon asked if any member of the audience had anything to bring before the Committee. No
one came forward.
8. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mr. Witherspoon adjourned the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
