RESOLUTION 23-3566 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />CASSELBERRY, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING <br />REGISTRATION FOR THE CITY TO BECOME DESIGNATED AS A <br />MONARCH CITY THROUGH THE MONARCH CITY USA PROGRAM. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Casselberry is committed to conserving and improving ecological <br />health and stability through the management of natural areas and pollinator gardens to provide <br />suitable habitat for wildlife including monarch butterflies; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has declared an interest in becoming a member of the Monarch City <br />USA program which is a nonprofit organization that encourages municipalities across the United <br />States to help monarch butterfly populations recover through the planting of native milkweed <br />and nectar plants within their jurisdiction; and <br />WHEREAS, the City understands the significance and importance of the monarch butterfly <br />as it is an indicator species for the overall ecological health of expansive geographic areas; and <br />WHEREAS, the monarch is extremely vital as a pollinating insect that helps pollinate <br />human crops for food and flowers; and <br />WHEREAS, through the installation of pollinator gardens, the City will remain committed <br />to help with the monarch's population recovery as well as provide habitat for numerous other <br />pollinator species; and <br />WHEREAS, the City will encourage residents and business owners to plant Florida native <br />plant species, including various native milkweeds; and <br />WHEREAS, the City will encourage the use of pollinator gardens for educational purposes <br />for schools and the general public; and <br />WHEREAS, the City commits to help the monarch population climb back to a level that <br />allows for the removal of its endangered status. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF CASSELBERRY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION I. The City Commission of the City of Casselbeny hereby approves for the City <br />to register for and become designated as a Monarch City through Monarch City USA and authorizes <br />City staff to submit registration on behalf of the City. <br />SECTION II. Conflicts. All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict with any of the <br />provisions of this Resolution are hereby repealed. <br />SECTION III. Severability. If any Section or portion of a Section of this Resolution <br />proves to be invalid, unlawful, or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to invalidate or impair the <br />validity, force, or effect of any other Section or part of this Resolution. <br />
