Chapter 3.0 Environmental Impacts
3.1 Description of Planning Area
3.1.1 Planning/Service/Project Area
The planning area and the service area are the same. The City of Casselberry is
centrally located in Seminole County, south of Lake Jessup and mostly east of U.S.
17-92. The City stretches along S.R. 436 to the Orange County line which is the
southern service area boundary. There is a small piece of Orange County which is
served by the Casselberry water system. The northern boundary is the city limits of
Winter Springs and the eastern boundary is the service area of Seminole County
Utilities. The western boundary is the service area of the City of Longwood
(northwest), the City of Altamonte Springs (central west) and also a Seminole County
service area. The City is served by a number of arterial highways including U.S. 17-
92, and State Roads 436 and 434. The Casselberry water service area is shown on
Exhibit 3-1.
3.1.2 Environmental Aspects of the Planning Area
The environmental aspects such as climate, topography, geology, hydrology and
environmentally sensitive areas were described in Amendment 1 of the December
2007 Water Facilities Work Plan previously submitted to the FDEP Bureau of Water
Facilities Funding.
3.2 Socio-economic Conditions
The socio-economic conditions have not changed since Amendment 1 was issued.
3.3 Water Supply, Treatment and Transmission/Distribution System
3.3.1 Description of the Existing Water System
The City of Casselberry water supply and treatment facilities has not changed since
Amendment 1 was submitted. Thanks to the FDEP Bureau of Water Facilities
Funding and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the City has
been able to replace approximately 14,361 linear feet of AC water main pipe (as of
June 9, 2010). The project approved and funded is proposed to replace a total of
39,050 feet of AC pipe by completion. Two other projects within the City resulted in
the replacement of another 1,113 feet of AC water main. Table 3-1 of Amendment 1
has been revised and is included below.
