CASSELBGRRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of March 29 — workshop
Shall economic development complement already existing public spaces?
Discussion: The Commission as a whole agreed that any development considered for the site should
complement the existing public spaces. They noted that the City is very proud of Lake Concord Park and the
events that take place there, and felt that any development should help to complement the utilization of the
park. The general consensus of the Commission was that the opportunities for this site would lead to
redevelopment of the whole corridor, and if there were other amenities the City desired but which were not cost
effective for the developer, the City would be open to some type of contribution. Additional discussion ensued
regarding the need for parking for the site, as well as whether CRA funds should be used for incentives, or for
some other purpose, such as purchasing additional properties along 17-92, or making improvements or
standardizing along 17-92. The Commission was generally open to using CRA finds for assembling
properties, but expressed some concerns about missing opportunities for using the funds as part of an incentive
on the 15 acres if it was used on purchases. After a lengthy discussion, the Commission expressed a desire to
see what staff had in mind as far as acquiring properties before they moved forward, and then would like to
prioritize for things such as standardization, decorative lighting and similar improvements.
Mr. Newlon thanked the Commission for their input, stating that staff would take their suggestions and
assemble some visions for their consideration that could be set out as guidelines to be taken to the development
community.
4. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Glancy adjourned the workshop at 7:23 p.tn.
DATE MINUTES APPROVED BY CITY COMMISSION: .
ATTEST:
Donna G. Gardner, CMC
City Clerk
