CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of April 14, 2014— Regular Meeting
Page 17 of 19
16. CITY CLERK'S REPORT
• No report.
17. CITY COMMISSIONERS' REPORTS/COMMENTS
Commissioner Anthony Aramendia — Seat No. 1:
• Reported that the Arts & Music in the Park and Food Truck Bazaar on March 14, 2014 was well
attended even though the weather was cool.
• Advised that Friends of the Park and volunteers had conducted an air potato raid on March 22, 2014 in
the area of Zinnia Drive and the Casselberry Greenway Trail near Wirz Park, and had collected over
1000 pounds of air potatoes.
• Stated the City had hosted a landscape workshop with Dr. Kelly Brock on March 26, 2014 which was
well attended. He added that there had also been a tree giveaway for the residents in attendance.
• Reported that on March 29, 2014 Friends of the Park and other volunteers had met at the City's
nursery and planted over 750 bald cypress trees. He added that it was estimated that using these trees
in the future as plantings for residents' yards and City easements, conservation and lake areas could
amount to a savings of around $40,000 for the City.
• Attended Habitat for Humanity Day of Recognition for National Service at Antigua Bay on April 1,
2014.
• Attended the CALNO (Council of Local Governments in Seminole County) meeting on April 2, 2014.
• Reported he had attended a meeting on the Oxford Road Study which was held in the Commission
Chambers on April 3, 2014 at which many new ideas for opportunities in that area were presented.
• Advised he had attended the Casselberry Woman's Club Fashion Show on April 3, 2014.
• Attended the Seminole County Farm Tour on April 11, 2014, which he felt was very interesting.
• Advised that the Arts & Music in the Park and Food Truck Bazaar held on Friday, April 11, 2014 had
also been very well attended.
• Reported he had visited the Seminole County Historical Museum on April 2, 2014 and Ms. Melinda
Casselberry had given a presentation on the City of Casselberry's involvement in World War 1I.
• Expressed concerns about the timing of the lights at Kewanee Trail and State Road 436, indicating he
felt there was a safety issue that should be looked into.
• Advised he had reviewed the City Commission Goals Report for FY 13-14 and appreciated all the
efforts of staff towards accomplishing the City's goals. He reiterated his desire for the City's goals to
include a reduction in the cost of irrigation meters as an incentive to residents to connect to the City's
water system for irrigation purposes. He added that he felt this would be extremely helpful in the
efforts to green up the City of Casselberry, which is a goal the Commission had earlier unanimously
agreed upon. Mr. Newlon clarified that this would require an ordinance to change those costs, and
staff was currently working on a more comprehensive ordinance which would include other changes as
well. He added that the hope was that this change would cause there to be more irrigation meters
throughout the City, and that those customers would then be long-term water utility customers. In
response to questions from the Commission, he did note that the proposal was only for the cost of the
meters and not a reduction in water usage fees.
