Five Commissioners, one of <br />whom serves as Mayor, are elected at <br />staggered intervals to serve four-year terms. <br />The Commission, in turn, appoints a <br />professional City Manager to oversee daily City <br />operations. The City has 201 full-time and 7 <br />part-time employees who provide the labor <br />force to support City operations. These <br />operations consist of all municipal and <br />water/sewer utilities services, as well as <br />traditional City functions such as police <br />protection, sanitation, road maintenance, water and sewer operations, parks and <br />recreation, planning and community development, and administrative support activities <br />for City governmental programs. <br />In addition to its dedicated workforce, the City also advocates strong community <br />involvement through a number of voluntary citizen boards. These boards assist the City <br />Commission by reviewing various City -related issues and making recommendations for <br />Commission consideration. They include the Planning and Zoning Commission, Parks & <br />Recreation Advisory Board, Police Officers' & Firefighters' Pension Board of Trustees and <br />Lakes Management Advisory Board. These Boards are indicative of the public-private <br />partnerships and commitment toward progress and expansion in the City as <br />demonstrated by its citizens <br />Casselberry's current official population is <br />estimated to be 28,548, a far cry from the <br />population of 407 in 1950, and the City <br />encompasses an area of approximately 7.6 <br />square miles. Located within the City <br />boundaries are 17 parks, some of which offer <br />recreational activities such as basketball <br />baseball and soccer, while other parks offer a <br />more passive use within the City's <br />neighborhoods.
