Firefighter means an actively employed full-time [person] employed by the County, <br />including his initial probationary employment period, who is certified as a Firefighter as a condition <br />of employment in accordance with the provisions of F.S. § 6335 633.408, and whose duty it is to <br />extinguish fires, to protect life and to protect property. The term includes all certified, supervisory, <br />and command personnel whose duties include, in whole or in part, the supervision, training, <br />guidance, and management responsibilities of full-time firefighters, part-time firefighters, or <br />auxiliary firefighters but does not include part-time firefighters or auxiliary firefighters. Effective <br />October 1, 2015, all Firefighter Members of the System shall be employed by Seminole County as <br />a result of the merger of the City Fire Department with the County. <br />SECTION II: That Chapter 62, Pensions and Retirement, Article XVIII, Police Officers' <br />and Firefighters' Pension Plan, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Casselberry, is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 62-2008, Disability, by amending subsection (a), Disability <br />Benefits in-line of Duty, subsection (c), Disability Benefits Not -in -Line of Duty, subsection (g), <br />Workers' Compensation, and by adding subsection (h), Eligibility for Disability Benefits, to read <br />as follows: <br />(a) Disability benefits in-line of duty. Any Member who shall become totally and permanently <br />disabled to the extent that he is unable, by reason of a medically determinable physical or <br />mental impairment, to render useful and efficient service as a Police Officer or Firefighter, <br />which disability was directly caused by the performance of his duty as a Police Officer or <br />Firefighter, shall, upon establishing the same to the satisfaction of the Board, be entitled to <br />a monthly pension equal to three percent of his Average Final Compensation multiplied by <br />the total years of Credited Service, but in any event the minimum amount paid to the <br />Member shall be 65 percent of the Average Final Compensation of the Member. Eliibility <br />requirements for disability benefits are set forth in subsection (h), below. Terminated <br />persons, either -vested ot iton-vested, ate not eligible for disability beriefits.
