RESOLUTION 14 -2646 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF CASSELBERRY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING <br />SEMINOLE STATE COLLEGE AND ITS FOUNDATION IN <br />THEIR EFFORTS TO DEVELOP A REGIONAL ARTS AND <br />EDUCATION VILLAGE CONCEPT IN THE CITY OF <br />CASSELBERRY; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Seminole State College is admired by the City as a high quality educational <br />institution that serves Seminole County and the Metropolitan Orlando region with an outstanding <br />reputation for excellence and innovation; and <br />WHEREAS, Seminole State College delivers its services through campuses distributed <br />throughout Seminole County and a broad program of study that encompasses over 190 degrees <br />and programs which include fine arts; and <br />WHEREAS, Seminole State College and its Foundation have expressed interest in <br />working collaboratively with the City to establish a regional arts and education village concept in <br />Casselberry to include gallery space, wet labs, classrooms and approximately 250 multi - family <br />dwelling units; and <br />WHEREAS, through a public /private partnership with a developer the regional arts and <br />education village concept would become an endowed asset for the Foundation that would serve <br />to continually fund the arts program; and <br />WHEREAS, the City is a strong and committed supporter of arts and culture in Central <br />Florida as demonstrated by its active participation with many arts organizations, sponsorship of <br />art classes, and dedication of gallery and sculpture pedestal space through City Hall, the <br />Casselberry Art House and the Lake Concord Park sculpture garden; and <br />WHEREAS, the City would be honored and enriched should Seminole State College <br />establish its regional arts and education village concept within the City of Casselberry; and <br />WHEREAS, the 21 acre site in consideration is located near the intersection of U.S. <br />Hwy 17 -92 and SR 436 where a new FDOT flyover is being constructed that restricts access <br />from US Hwy 17 -92 and where the site also fronts on Oxford Road and allows for reorientation <br />of the site to Oxford Road; and <br />WHEREAS, the site is within the area jointly studied by the City and Seminole County <br />within the Oxford Road Long Range Development Plan; and <br />
