Casselberry Economic Development Advisory Board
Minutes of April 16, 2013 Meeting
Page 2
Presentation: "Transportation Overview"
Ms. Pamela Lynch, Economic Development Coordinator, and Mr. Kyle Dudgeon, Economic Development
Planner, reviewed information provided in a PowerPoint presentation regarding new transportation developments that
will affect the City. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is attached and made a part of the minutes.
Mr. Hufford arrived at the meeting at 11:41 a.m.
Mr. Crossman arrived at the meeting at 11:49 a.m.
A discussion ensued relative to Casselberry's relationship to transportation. The Board stated that based on
where the transportation will be most targeted; Casselberry may be insulated. The opportunities may be to keep
residents inside the City rather than attracting people from the outside.
Ms, Lynch pointed out that from what she understood; the predominant viewpoint was that Casselberry was
just its two commercial corridors (State Road 436 and US HWY 17 -92). She said that it's important that when
changes like the flyover come in, the City position itself to allow for them.
The Board asked what properties were being affected by the flyover and what was going to happen to the
businesses and the Post - Office on US HWY 17 -92.
Mr. Dudgeon stated that the future use of the Post - Office has yet to be determined, He said some other
businesses had been bought out. He stated that to the best of their knowledge New Peking Buffet would still be in
operation.
A separate conversation ensued relative to the transportation options available to the City. Mr. Kelly Brock,
City Engineer, stated that the Flexbus concept may start operation at the same time as SunRail. He additionally said
that it is a cutting edge program, the first of its kind in Florida that would be demonstrated on a one year pilot
program.
The Board stated that an alternative may be a shuttle that transports people from the SunRail station to
Casselberry.
