Casselberry Economic Development Advisory Board <br />Minutes of February 19, 2013 Meeting <br />Page 2 <br />Presentation: "How to Attract Retailers" <br />Mr. John Crossman, reviewed information provided in a PowerPoint presentation regarding various ways <br />that residents can attract retailers to the City. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is attached and made a part of <br />the minutes. <br />Exercise: SWOT Analysis <br />Ms. Pamela Lynch, Economic Development Coordinator, led the Board in a Strengths, Weaknesses, <br />Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analysis exercise. Ms. Lynch explained the purpose of this analysis is to identify the <br />positive and negative characteristics of the Casselberry economy. She stated that this should help the Board <br />recognize opportunities for economic development. <br />A discussion ensued regarding traffic counts as both a strength and a weakness. The Board stated that high <br />traffic counts are attractive to commercial enterprises, but poor road conditions can deter business. The Board said <br />that the aesthetics of Casselberry's major corridors could be influenced by the flyover. <br />Ms. Lynch stated that the CRA invested in design plans for the flyover, and the project will be upgraded to <br />be aesthetically appealing. <br />The Board also said local government, affordability, location, accessibility, and Seminole County schools are <br />strengths. The Board further identified the history of vacant property, past perception, marketing of events and aged <br />commercial buildings as weaknesses. <br />nnr—Crossman- excuse0imselUat t2A8 <br />The Board said the City Center project, future community involvement, the Sunrail system, pedestrian and <br />automobile connectivity and the Flexbus concept are opportunities. <br />Public Comment <br />No public comments were brought to the Economic Development Advisory Board. <br />Other Business <br />Ms. Pamela Lynch, Economic Development Coordinator, reviewed information relating to a future meetings <br />schedule. She asked for input relating to future conversation topics, their order of importance, and if other issues <br />should be added or deleted. <br />
