CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION Minutes of August 13, 2012 — workshop Page 2 of 2 Mr. Ambler shared some statistics compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) regarding future funding requirements and estimated shortfalls for utilities nationwide over the next five to twenty -five years. He advised that the EPA estimates that a three to five percent increase in spending for utilities will be needed to close the gap. Mr. Ambler gave a brief overview of each of the components of the City's current utility system, which are: potable water production; potable water distribution system; gravity sewer collection and transmission system; water reclamation facility; and reclaimed water distribution system. He advised that the City's system is very healthy, but the City should take a proactive approach to maintain sustainability of the system. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is attached to and made a part of these minutes. Discussion: Discussion ensued regarding the asset value and annual cost of each of the City's systems; the service life of the systems; various strategies used to extend service life, including lining and pipe bursting; availability of grants; utility rates; and current and future projects. The Commission requested that they be advised of any issues with regulations that may impact the Casselberry community. Mr. Newlon concluded the workshop by stating that the purpose of the presentation had been to give the Commission some ideas about what the City should be providing as far as resources in order to continue to maintain the infrastructure of the utility system. The Commission thanked Mr. Newlon and Mr. Ambler for providing them with the information.
