ARTICLE 2 <br />DUES DEDUCTION <br />2.1 Any member of the USW, who has submitted a properly executed dues deduction card or <br />statement to the City in accordance with a format prescribed or approved by the City, may, by <br />request in writing, have his/her membership dues, initiation fees, and uniform assessments in the <br />USW deducted from his/her wages on a bi-weekly basis. Dues, assessments, and initiation fees so <br />deducted from each employee's salary shall be forwarded by the City to the USW on a monthly <br />basis. However, the City shall have no responsibility for any liability for any monies once sent to <br />the Union, nor shall the City have any responsibility or a liability for the improper deduction of <br />dues. The USW shall indemnify the City and hold it harmless against any and all suits, claims, <br />demands, and liabilities which arise out of or by reason of any action taken or not taken by the City <br />to comply or attempt to comply with the provisions of this Article. <br />2.2 It shall be the responsibility of the USW to notify the City of any change in the amount of <br />dues to be deducted at least thirty (30) days in advance of said change. Under no circumstances <br />shall the City be required to deduct USW fines, penalties, political action payments, or special <br />assessments of any kind. <br />2.3 Any member of the USW may, on thirty (30) days written notice to the City, require that <br />the City cease making deductions from his/her wages. <br />2.4 The USW agrees that a reasonable charge for having its dues, initiation fees, and uniform <br />assessments deducted by the City istwenty-five cents ($.25) per employee per month. Said charges <br />shall be deducted from the amounts forwarded by the City to the USW. <br /> <br />
