The Board discussed the proposed improvements to the property and considered the request as
maintenance to fhe site. The Board was polled and the motion failed with a unanimous voice vote.
Fourteenth Item of Business: Public Comments
Commissioner Sandi Soiomon suggested the City gef the word out to fhe County Administrators
and Commissioners #hat the City is in favor of extending the term of the CRA. A general discussion ensued
regarding extension of fhe CRA term and changes to the parcels included in the Community Redevelopment
District (CRD).
Mr. Dale Christensen came forward, Mr. Chrisfensen said the declining tax base was one of fhe
establishing criteria for creating the Community Redevebpment Agency. He said that we should not be
fearful of the elimination of the Community Redevelopment Agencies in Seminole County. Mr. Christensen
explained that the City GRA expires in 2015 and the Seminole County CRA expires in 2017. He said it
wouldn'# make any academic or political sense to eliminate a CRA in 2015 and renew fhe County CRA in
2017.
Mr. Christensen said thak Altamonte Springs was fhe first to establish a CRA in the 1970's and #hat
was based on traffic congestion. Mr. Christensen questioned if Altamonte Springs has an active CRA. fie
felt there was tremendous amount of support for the GRA.
A general discussion ensued regarding the CRA's in Seminole County and possible extension of
the CRA terms.
Mr. Jones excused himself at 10;55 a.m.
Mr. John Casselberry, 700 South Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr.
Casselberry suggested requesting a short term extension to the City's CRA so That the terms coincide with
the Seminole County CRA term.
Mr. Casselberry said he attended a Metro Plan meeting recently. Mr,. Casselberry said that
Highway 429 is an uncomple#ed section of the western beltway. He said it ends in Apopka and it should
connect in Sanford. He felt if that was a completed beltway it would help ease traffic on Interstate 4 and US
Highway 17-92.
