City of ®rlando Florida
Contact: Andy Kittsley 407-246-3857
Davey conducted a street tree and park tree inventory in the City of Orlando. A team of five
Certified Arborists inventoried approximately 95,000 trees, stumps, and potential planting sites
using pen-tablet computers. Tree locations were determined using a combination of GIS and
GPS technology. The trees were evaluated on several attribute categories, including condition,
maintenance needs, and potential risk. The data were processed, analyzed, and incorporated
into an urban forest management plan. The management plan provides important guidelines
that will enable the City of Orlando to manage their urban forestay resources more efficiently.
The management plan presents a comprehensive nine-year plan of maintenance activities
designed to reduce potential hazards, create a cyclical pruning program, and establish an annual
tree planting program. The inventory data were added to Davey's TreeKeeper®7 tree
management software to help the City plan, schedule, and track tree work, and print detailed
reports. Davey's IT Department integrated TreeKeeper® 7's subscription capabilities and
created a local network. This creates a system linking field computers, used daily by City staff,
to their TreeKeeper®7 network. The TreeKeeper®7 network enables the City of Orlando to
maintain the most up-to-date inventory information.
City of I3ahlone~a, Georgia
Contact: Joel Cordle 706-864-6133
Davey conducted aGIS-based tree inventory for the City of Dahlonega, Georgia in February,
2009. A Davey urban forester collected data on 800 trees and potential planting sites. Each tree
was inspected by an ISA Certified Arbor•ist, who assessed tree health and structure, evaluated
site conditions, and recommended prioritized maintenance needs in accordance with ANSI
A300 standards. Tree attribute and location data were collected using pen-tablet computers
loaded with an orthophotograph, City GIS basemaps, and Davey's customized ArcPad data
collection program. The inventory data were analyzed by a Davey senior urban forester to
develop a custom tree management and planting plan for the City. The custom plan is based on
tree inventory data collected by Davey, current arboricultural standards, and input from the City
about historical and ecotourism benefits of the local tree species. The plan provides the City
with amulti-year program for street tree maintenance and management that is easy to use and
administer.
City of Tifton, Georgia
Contact: Bert Crowe 229-391-3947
Davey conducted a street tree inventory for the City of Tifton, located in Tift County, Georgia.
Approximately 2,800 trees in the "Historic District" were evaluated and data were collected
using pen-tablet computers. Tree locations were determined using a combination of GIS and
GPS technology. Each tree was inspected by an ISA Certified Arborist who assessed tree health
and structure, evaluated site conditions, and recommended maintenance in accordance with
ANSI standards. Tree maintenance was prioritized using USDA's Community Tree Risk
Rating system. Tree attribute data were loaded into Davey's Tree Keeper® software to allow
the City to systematically plan tree maintenance, easily update the database, and perform
queries of the tree inventory data. The City also received a comprehensive, on-site training
session for the use of TreeKeeper° software and one year of unlimited phone support.
ANSI data fields were collected for the following municipalities: Franklin, Tennessee;
Germantown, Tennessee; Mobile, Alabama; Tifton, Georgia; Dahlonega, Georgia; Medical
University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina; Hony County, South Carolina;
Crescent City, Florida; and Marion, North Carolina.
Davey 4
