Joe Howard called the meeting to order at I :00 pm. lIoard Members Present: Joe Howard, Sar.ah French, Robert Doyle, Patricia Howlett, Suzanne Avakian, Beverly Tish, Herb Dickens, Paul L'Homme lIoard Members Absent: None. . Staff Present: . Linda Moore, Maria Simmons, Donald Dowd Audience Present:. Bill Clark, Stacy Burton. . ADnroval of Minutes: December 9, 200\! minutes were approved as read. Audience Particioation: The Board and City have agreed to a "joint grand opening" after the renovations arc complete and Center reopens. Plans for the B.azaar wiU resume. Items for Discussion: A) Board Members Update John Warren has re,signed from the Board due to hcallh conditions. Bill Clark's finallerm expired. Herbert Dickens has been appointed a Board Member. II) 2009 Activities and Events . Mar/in Luther King Event on January 17th., involving community volunteer painting the exterior of the Recreation Center and continuing the intense refurbishment of the facility. Dog Clean-Up Day on January 31 st at Plumosa Dog Park. Jazz COllcert on February 21 5t with an Art Show, vendors and musical guest Eric Diana. Health Fair on February 18th; free admission for all Seminole County residents. C) Florida Strawberry Festival 19 registrations as.ofI1l3/09. Event will have a bus ride out to Plant City, FL. $35 Cost that includes festival admission, a Mel Tillis concert and'other music and entertainment. Anticipation has been positive, bringing in others outside the city and county. Deadline for RSVP is Friday, February 13,2009. Event will be marketed to Carriage Hills, Lake Kathryn and other senior living/service arcas'; .' Staff ReDort: . . A) Staff Update Slaff is working w.ith Humana, Comfort Keepers, and the University of Central Florida will initiate andlor continue special services for the seniors. including blood pressure checks, memory exercise programs and much morc. II) Program Update New programs' are being developed for the 2009 year. Older/regular programs arc being enhanced and marketed towards the community and beyond. C) Renovation ti pdale The Center repairs are tentatively set for the end of February 2009; pending approval. The Air Conditioning unit. Front and side Electric Doors and ~athroom areas will be the main focus of the renovation repairs.
