Director’s Report

1.Take a Kid Fishin’
This event is put together by Rotary International, under the leadership of Bill
Allen, who is a business owner and a resident of Casselberry. The event was very
successful. The City is a partner in this event even though it does not have to
provide dedicated staff.

2.Events
nd
Blast from the Past – Fifties & Sixties event: Will be held June 2 from 6-10 PM
behind City Hall.
th
Country Concert & Bar-B-Q Contest: August 4 from 6-10 PM behind City Hall.

3. Playtimes
Thanks to our new City Manager, Barbara Lipscomb P & R is now distributing
Playtimes, a newsletter with all the information about events and programs with
the water bills monthly. This has more than doubled the distribution and
everyone that receives water service from Casselberry will be kept informed.
Before, this newsletter was delivered to schools and we had to depend that the
students would take them home to their parents.

4. Volunteer Board Dinner
th
The “Volunteer Board Dinner” will be held on June 19 from 7-10 PM at the
Senior Center. Everyone will be receiving an invitation with more details.

5. Budget Update
All departments in the City are working in the budget to reflect a 20% cut, but the
final decision will not be known until late July after Tallahassee has voted. In
relations to Parks, we are facing the elimination of 9 positions, most are vacant at
this time. Athletics will be the hardest hit.

Mr. Fortini asked the board members for their approval to cancel the June meeting due to the
th
dinner scheduled for June 19 and also because in July he should have a budget update to
present. The motion carried unanimously 4-0.

Marianne reminded Mr. Fortini about the signs for the dog park; Mr. Fortini said that he had
already submitted the request. She also complimented the Mural painted on the Racquetball
court wall at Secret Lake Park.

Adjournment:
Motion made to adjourn meeting by Butch Spence; seconded by Phyllis Sheppard. Meeting
adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Minutes taken and submitted by Maria Simmons, Sr. Staff Assistant.

3
