Stewart, PIO <br />(407) 262-7616 Ext. 1008 <br />FAX (407) 262-7637 <br /> <br /> <br />Homicide – CPD Case 200820000474 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The Casselberry Police Department responded to a call of a shot fired in the area of 503 Polaris Loop <br />in the Summit Village area of Casselberry at about 0340 hours on February 23, 2008. Police also <br />received a 9-1-1 call from an individual claiming that he had shot a man who had attacked him. <br />Arriving police units found Gary Steven Hopkins II, W/M, DOB 5/21/85 laying on the ground and <br />bleeding from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The individual who made the 9-1-1 call was later <br />identified as Robert Adriann-Fernando Pinos, W/M, DOB 10/20/89. <br /> <br />Police received reports from witnesses that a physical altercation had occurred between Hopkins and <br />Pinos. Pinos allegedly went to a nearby car in the parking lot and retrieved a small bore shotgun. <br />Pinos allegedly returned to the fight scene, confronted Hopkins and shot him one time with the <br />shotgun. Pinos allegedly left the scene and called 9-1-1. He returned to the scene and was taken into <br />custody without incident. Pinos was booked into the Seminole County Jail on a murder charge. He is <br />being held on a no bond status. <br /> <br />The Casselberry Fire Department responded to the scene to treat Hopkins’ injuries. He was taken to <br />Florida North Hospital in Altamonte Springs where he reportedly died of his wound. The Volusia <br />County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted regarding this homicide and has taken jurisdiction <br />in the case. An autopsy of Hopkins is pending. Police notified members of Hopkins’ family of his <br />death. The family members live out of state. They have stated that they do not want to make any <br />public comment and wish their grief in this tragic incident to remain their private family concern. <br /> <br />The homicide investigation is an open and ongoing investigation by members of the Casselberry <br />Police Department. The 9-1-1 tape, cause of the fight and other factors surrounding this homicide are <br />portions of the active investigation therefore no information on those matters will be discussed or <br /> <br />released. <br /> <br /> <br />
