The City Charter now must be <br />changed to move the candidate qualifying period from August, to the third full week in June. If a <br />candidate chooses to qualify through petition, the deadline moves from August, to the third Tuesday in <br />May. The Commission gave preliminary approval and will have a second reading of the proposed <br />th <br />ordinance at its February 25 meeting. <br /> <br />In other news, Casselberry City Commissioners reviewed a measure that would address erosion <br />problems along Gee Creek. The amended agreement is between the City and the U.S. Department of <br />Agriculture. It would allow the City to speed up the project and receive up to 75% funding from the <br />federal government, or as much as $630,000. The City’s portion of the project, about $210,000, would <br />be funded through stormwater utility fees. Commissioners passed a resolution to proceed with the plan. <br /> <br />Commissioners also held the first of two public hearings regarding the Seminole Economic <br />Enhancement District, known as SEED. The program would allow commercial, industrial or municipal <br />properties in Casselberry, located in targeted areas along U.S. Highway 17-92, to take part in the <br />special economic development program.
