Mayor's Proclamation - Retirement of Bruce Simpson, Public Works Department- <br />Mayor Goff presented a Proclamation to Bruce Simpson, honoring his 28-year service to the City <br />of Casselberry as the Field Supervisor, Distribution and Collection Lift Station/Mechanic, in the <br />Public Works Department. <br /> <br />B. Mayor's Proclamation - The Month of April is "Water Conservation Month" - Mayor <br />Goff presented a Proclamation proclaiming the month of April as Water Conservation Month. <br />Accepting the Proclamation was Ed Torres, Public Works Director. <br /> <br />C. Mayor's Proclamation - May 18-24,2008 is "National Public Works Week" - Mayor <br />Goff presented a Proclamation proclaiming the week of May 18 -26, 2008 as National Public <br />Works Week. Accepting the Proclamation was Ed Torres, Public Works Director. <br /> <br />D. Departmental Presentation - Fire Department Operations - Chief Donald Harkins gave a <br />comprehensive review of the Fire Department configuration, past and present. He outlined the <br />number of staffing personnel and pieces of equipment needed for the operations at Fire Station 21 <br />and 25. He also addressed the subject of training, salaries and response scenarios in comparison <br />to the surrounding departments. A copy ofthe power point presentation is attached to and made a <br />part of these minutes. <br /> <br />7. Citizens' Comments <br /> <br />This is the time set aside for persons who wish to make comment or make inquiry on any matter <br />not on the Agenda. The following individuals came forward: <br /> <br />1) John Casselberry, 700 S. Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida, spoke in opposition to <br />Fire Assessment Fees. He also spoke in opposition to demolition ofthe current Recreation <br />Building and the house at 110 Quail Pond Circle, which is on the Agenda (Item 11 D) for <br />purchase. <br /> <br />2) Joseph Knight, 335 Jasmine Road, Casselberry, Florida, stated the primary responsible of <br />a City is to protect its citizens and that includes police and fire protection and everything else is <br />secondary. If the City is having budget issues because of the current economic climate, the <br />Commission should start by cutting beautification projects, civic center, boardwalks, etc. and stay <br />focused on protecting the citizens with their support of the Police and Fire Departments. <br /> <br />3) Bruce Hrancir, 528 Queens Mirror Circle, Casselberry, Florida, expressed concerns <br />regarding fire assessments and the potential increase over the years and they are not tax <br />deductible. <br /> <br />4) Bill Allen, 1240 Rolling Lane, Casselberry, Florida, stated that decisions rendered by the <br />City Commission should benefit the citizens and should not be based upon personal agendas and <br />the safety of the citizens is more important than beautification projects in the community. <br />
